On September 8, 2023, NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games revealed a first look at Jean-Claude Van Damme as Johnny Cage in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 reboot. The announcement was made during an episode of the YouTube show Hot Ones, which included Ed Boon, the co-creator of Mortal Kombat.

JeanC laude Van Damme to Play Johnny Cage: Van Damme is seen in the teaser practicing several of Johnny Cage’s hallmark skills, such as the split-legged groin punch and the shadow kick. He also delivers some of Cage’s trademark one-liners, such as “I’m Johnny Cage, and I’m here to party!”

Van Damme’s ppearance in Mortal Kombat 1 completes the franchise’s cycle. Mortal Kombat was devised by Boon and John Tobias, who were both fans of Van Damme’s films. Johnny Cage was inspired by Van Damme and even incorporates some of his distinctive maneuvers.

JeanC laude Van Damme to Play Johnny Cage: Van Damme’s Johnny Cage skin will be offered as a pre-order bonus for the Mortal Kombat 1 premium edition. The game is set to be released on October 24, 2023.
